Exploration
To reach remote birding hotspots I utilize a well-maintained comfortable vehicle. For larger groups, a spacious van is available.
Riverine & Mangrove Boats
For river outings, we use local boats. Every boat ride is an exciting experience, whereby I guide you for the best chances to spot kingfishers and the elusive African Finfoot.
Practical Preparation
The optimal window for birdwatching in The Gambia and Senegal is from November to March, coinciding with the dry season and the arrival of Palearctic migrants. From April to October, conditions for birding still are exceptional, however temperature and rainfall might make touring more challenging.
I recommend packing lightweight, breathable clothing in earthy tones, along with sturdy footwear, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-quality optics.
Health & Safety
Stay healthy by using sun protection and repellent. Consult your doctor for malaria profylaxis and use only bottled water.
Local Customs
Dress modestly in rural areas and always ask permission before taking photos. Respect for local traditions is key.
